About
Hi! I'm Mimi, a senior at George
Mason University in Fairfax Virginia majoring in Integrative Studies
with a concentration in Conservation Studies and a minor in Art and
Visual Technology. I grew up in the coastal town of Jacksonville, NC
where I
fostered an interest in conservation and environmental science education
through a city-run summer leadership institute. After attending an
Alternative Break Trip to south Florida for
ecosystem restoration, which I now lead, I decided to change my major to
Conservation. In May of 2013, I began a long-term
monitoring project on a population of Jefferson and spotted salamanders
in Warrenton, VA at Environmental Studies on the Piedmont where I now
work as a Fundraising Assistant and volunteer as an assistant bird
bander. I attended the Smithsonian-Mason School of Conservation in the Fall of 2014 where I now volunteer by preparing bird skins for the institute's education collection. In my free
time I enjoy sewing, weaving, playing violin and mandolin, and
sketching/painting. I also raise chickens, my
favorite one you can see me holding in the above photo!
